MONGOLIA TRAVEL REPORT

Flight of the Turkish Airlines Company to Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia, with a stopover at Ataturk Airport in Istanbul and at Manas Airport in Biskek in Kyrgyzstan.

Outward journey: departure from Malpensa at 11.20 - expected arrival in Ulaanbaatar at 11.20 the following day but due to adverse weather conditions in Mongolia, postponed to 20.00.

Return: departure from Ulaanbaatar at 12.05 - arrival at Malpensa at 22.45 on the same day.

Price of the return flight Euro 575.

From 01 July 2014 the tourist visa for Mongolia up to 30 days of stay is not necessary.

Transfer from Chinggis Khaan Airport to the center of Ulaanbaatar: either you agree with your hotel for more or less free transport, or you can take an expensive taxi.

But the cheapest way is to leave the arrivals terminal and cross the car park until you reach the main road (500 meters). Then turn right and walk for another 400 meters. until you reach the bus stop (there are no signs and this is feasible only during the day for safety reasons). Bus no. 11 runs every 15 minutes until 9.00 pm and takes you to the center, also stopping in Via Chingisliin Orgon Choloo, near the Library and the Theater of Dramatic Art. The fare is 500 T. It is paid to the conductor who comes to collect the money on the bus. The journey of about 20 km takes about 40 minutes.

Mongolia Vision Guesthouse is the accommodation located in the center, 400 meters away. about from Sukhbaatar Square, where I slept, which offers a mixed dormitory accommodation, including breakfast and free internet for the price of 7 USD per night. You can pay in both US Dollars and Tugrik.

Mongolia Vision Guesthouse also offers Tours of all sizes and throughout Mongolia at the price of 85 USD per day, including food, accommodation, entrance to monuments, parks and museums, car with driver and guide, although with ruthless bargaining I managed to get to USD 50 per day. You can pay in both US Dollars and Tugrik.

The center of Ulaanbaatar is good on foot and looks safe both day and night. It should be remembered that in the center of Sukhbaatar Square there is a bike rental.

Admission to the Winter Palace and the adjacent Temples costs 4,000 T plus 5,000 T for the camera, if you intend to use it. It is open on Monday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday from 9.00 to 20.00.

Admission to Migjid Janraising Sum inside the Gandan Monastery complex costs 4,000 T plus 7,000 T for the camera, if you intend to use it.

Admission to the statue of Genghis Khan in Tsonjin Boldog costs 7,000 T.
